Joshua grew up with an antique pool table in his basement in Brookline, Massachusetts. The beautiful 9-foot table, made by Atlantic Billiards Co. of New York, now lives in his garage in Cayucos. He first learned to play on his grandfather’s table in New Britain, Connecticut—before he was even tall enough to reach over the rails.

In 1985, Joshua moved to California to work in his uncle’s auto body shop in San Carlos, and a year later to Santa Cruz to learn to surf and attend UC Santa Cruz, where he earned a BFA in 1993. He then spent 15 years as a professional skydiver, teaching jump lessons, packing parachutes as an FAA Certified Rigger, and performing at events like the Mid State Fair in Paso Robles.

Skydiving at the Paso Robles Airport brought him to the Central Coast in 1994. Later, he returned to school and earned a California Teaching Credential and Master’s in Teaching. In 2004, he began teaching Art and Ceramics at Paso Robles High School, where he taught for 20 years before retiring in 2024. In 2018, he founded the school’s Billiards Club, and today he enjoys playing competitive eight ball in the SLO BCA League at The Crimson Cue in Paso.
